Child Safeguarding

Kildare College is committed to promoting children and young people’s wellbeing and to safeguarding children and young people from harm.

The Kildare College Child Safeguarding Program is made up of work systems, practices, policies, and procedures designed to maintain a child safe and supportive school environment, and to embed an organisational culture of child safety within the College community.

Child safety and wellbeing is everyone’s responsibility. All adults in the College community have a shared responsibility for contributing to the safety, wellbeing, and protection of students.

Any person, including Staff, Volunteers, Contractors, families, and students can at any time report a reasonable suspicion about harm to a child or young person directly to the Department for Child Protection (DCP) using the Child Abuse Report Line (CARL) on 13 14 78. The report line is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Further information and resources can be found here.

If you need guidance on making a report, or have questions regarding child safety, contact one of the College’s appointed Child Safeguarding Officers, details below.

Child Safeguarding Officers

The College has appointed a number of Child Safeguarding Officers. The appointment of our Child Safeguarding Officers is an example of the College's application of the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations (National Principles), specifically Principles 1 (Committed Leadership, Governance and Culture) and 6 (Effective Complaints Management).

Appointing Child Safeguarding Officers assists the College to ensure that child safety is championed and modelled at all levels of the College and helps members of the College community know who they can approach to disclose and discuss harm or risk of harm to a child or young person or to seek support and advice.

Our Child Safeguarding Officers are able to advise and assist you in most situations involving child safety incidents or concerns.

They can assist in clarifying your reporting obligations and managing the next steps.

They can also answer any questions that you may have with respect to our Child Safeguarding Framework.
