We are delighted to introduce The Lightbridge Centre, a state-of-the-art facility that will forever shape the educational landscape at Kildare College set to open in Term 4, 2026.
The name Lightbridge beautifully encapsulates the essence of enlightenment, drawing deeply from the heritage of the Brigidine Sisters and the lasting legacy of Nano Nagle. It symbolises the illuminating journey of knowledge, creativity, and wellbeing that we strive to offer at Kildare.
More than just a name, Lightbridge serves as a metaphor for our mission—to enlighten the minds and hearts of our students, guiding them toward a future brimming with possibilities. It represents a journey from the familiar to the unknown, providing a supportive pathway for students to explore their creativity and wellbeing.
Reflecting the core values of openness, generosity, and a spirit of adventure that the Brigidine Sisters and Nano Nagle championed, Lightbridge embodies the pursuit of knowledge, truth, and artistic expression. The ‘light’ represents the pursuit of knowledge, truth, and artistic expression, while the ‘bridge’ symbolises a link to St Brigid and the connections we foster within our community and beyond.
Kildare is embarking on a transformative journey to replace the 1966 original building with the Lightbridge Centre, a state-of-the-art facility set to cost $15 million. This initiative addresses the limitations of our current infrastructure, including the use of a transportable building for Drama classes.
Approved as part of our 2020 Master Plan, the Lightbridge Centre represents a new era of innovative design that will meet modern standards in acoustics, safety, and flexibility. It will provide a dynamic environment where creativity, critical thinking, and communication skills are fostered, ensuring students have access to the best tools and resources to explore diverse career pathways.
The Centre will foster innovation and creativity, offering cutting-edge technology and collaborative spaces that cater to varied learning styles and interests. It will allow for versatile programming and scheduling, empowering educators to deliver high-quality, personalised learning experiences. Furthermore, it will serve as a hub for community engagement, inviting families and members of the wider community to participate in various activities while ensuring a secure and welcoming environment.
At the core of The Lightbridge Centre lies a commitment to nurturing creativity, wellbeing, and holistic development. Every aspect of this space has been designed to allow our students to explore their potential - whether through performing arts, academic support, or wellbeing services.
The Lightbridge Centre will feature:
The Lightbridge Centre is a landmark moment in Kildare’s history, marking a new chapter while honouring our past. As we prepare to say farewell to the original 1966 building, we do so with excitement for the future, knowing that this new facility is the culmination of years of growth, dedication, and vision.
Since 2018, our community has grown by 65%. The Lightbridge Centre is a direct response to this growth, providing additional classrooms and cutting-edge facilities to meet the needs of our expanding student body. Our 2020 Master Plan laid the foundation for this ambitious project, and its completion will coincide with Kildare College’s 60th anniversary in 2026 - an opportune time to reflect on our rich history and celebrate the bright future.
This is just the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Kildare College.
