Bullying. No Way!

06.04.20

Every year, on the third Friday in March, schools across the nation participate in the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence.

Students and staff at Kildare College acknowledged the event in many forms. Students and staff wore an orange ribbon advertising the important message of, “Bullying, No Way! Take a Stand Together.” During morning Pastoral Care classes, students viewed a video clip that defined bullying and informed them about strategies they can take if and when bullying occurs.

In addition, classes participated in lessons about how to respond to bullying; the importance of not being a bystander, and how to solve conflicts constructively and respectfully. Furthermore, many students had fun in the Brigidine Centre playing with “Bullying. No Way!” frisbees.

During lunchtime, students were invited to make a pledge stating one small action they can take to address bullying and violence. Students posted their messages on the “Bullying. No Way!” pin board.

Fact sheets about bullying and violence can be accessed (in many languages) by clicking here.

An important message: when someone is being bullied there are two important things to think about – looking after yourself or the person being bullied, and taking action to try to stop the bullying. Tell them to stop. Walk away or ignore them. Talk to someone. Keep a diary. Report the abuse. Focus on looking after yourself.

The money raised during the event will be donated to Kildare Ministries’ work supporting refugees in our community.
