Shche ne vmerla Ukraina is the title of the National anthem of Ukraine and translates into English as Ukraine Has Not Yet Perished. The anthem consists of one verse and one chorus, and although not as long as other anthems, each word carefully selected showcases the heart of the Ukrainian people. Amongst other things it is an anthem of hope and in our current times hope is desperately needed.
There are several benefits for fostering hope in our thinking.
- There is a correlation between having hope and our physical and psychological wellbeing.
- Hope can drive our motivation to achieve goals in the face of obstacles.
- Those of us who foster high hope are more likely to see situations as challenges rather than threats. Thereby allowing us to have a more positive filter when viewing situations, we are facing.
We, along with our Ukrainian sisters and brothers, hold onto the hope that freedom and liberty can be achieved.
In our everyday lives we can demonstrate hope in the way we interact with each other, by listening to a person's story, encouraging them to hold firm, demonstrating kindness and supporting one another in our thoughts and prayers.
The Bible mentions the word hope about 129 times and is one of the key virtues of the Christian faith alongside faith and love.
We therefore keep in our thoughts and prayers our Ukrainian families as they hold onto hope for a brighter present and future for their homeland.
In the College's Resource Centre and Hall our Whiteboards for Hope have been assembled. Our staff and students have written messages of hope for our Ukranian families.
