On Sunday 25 July our church celebrated, for the first time, World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. The date was chosen to coincide with the Feast of Saints Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus. The theme for the day is, “I am with you always” (Mt28:20).
The church hopes that this celebration may be an opportunity to connect all generations and to be mindful of expressing pastoral care and respect for older people, especially during these COVID times when many elderly members of our community may be experiencing loneliness and isolation.
The day sets out to remind us of the ongoing vital role that grandparents and the elderly play in our community.
