Reducing homelessness is everybody’s responsibility

25.09.19

For those experiencing homelessness, not having a safe and secure place to live, especially during the winter months, causes undue stress and anxiety. Currently there are more women and children at risk of becoming homeless than men, with domestic violence and poverty being the main reasons.

To help bring awareness and to develop a greater understanding of the challenges faced by those who experience homelessness, Year 7 students participated in a Winter Sleepout.

As an act of solidarity, The Vinnies Group made soup for the students and a few members of the group volunteered to help at the sleepout.

Students met at the College, had dinner, engaged in a variety of activities and listened to a talk by Jayne Shortt from Vinnies and watched a clip about a young boy, Chris who found himself homeless.

With more than one in five children in Australia living in a food-insecure household, your donations of cans from the Year 7 Sleepout, along with the Vinnies Group making soup and honey crackles will make a difference in the lives of vulnerable people in our community.
