Chickens by 3.jpg

Spring comes to Kildare!

24.09.19

There was a feeling of great enthusiasm and eagerness as 12 baby chicks hatched in the Science laboratory. These chicks are part of an experiment the Stage 1 Biology students are conducting regarding factors that affect chicken growth.

Fertilised eggs were purchased four weeks previously and the studnets learnt how to candle the eggs to tell which ones were growing chickens inside. It was with great excitement that we watched each chick hatch.

The chicks have been named and individually identified using dabs of food colouring so their growth rate can be measured.

They were then divided into three groups with one group being the control, one group being fed extra carbohydrate and one group extra protein. We look forward to analysing the results  before the chicks move off to their forever home.
