Kildare College commits to caring for each student and building an active and vibrant College community. One valued and recognised way we do this is through Peer Support. Within our Peer Support program, selected Year 11 students lead Year 8 students through their transition days and later work with them in a series of group sessions and activities aimed at helping the Year 8 students feel welcome and settled within our school community.
This year, several of our Peer Support Leaders attended the Year 8 Camp where they provided amazing leadership, support and energy- as well as excellent role modelling. Peer Support leaders also assisted at the Year 8 parent evening, conducted Principal tours and visited primary schools for transition visits. Our Year 8 and 9 Retreat Days were also attended by Peer Support leaders.
Our 2018 Peer Support Leaders have developed and grown within their leadership roles. In their work with the Year 8s they displayed compassion, maturity, responsibility, humour, and insight and the willingness to adapt and change based upon their regular reflections in class. These leaders successfully enabled our Year 8 students to settle into our school, and to feel valued as part of the Kildare community.
